Il basco Pello Bilbao della Bahrain Victorious, vince nella volata a tre la quarta tappa del Tour of the Alps, Naturno-Valle del Chiese/Pieve di Bono, km 168, la tappa regina della corsa con quasi 4000 metri di dislivello. La fuga è partita dopo 40 chilometri di grande bagarre ed è stata animata da Attila Valter (Groupama FDJ), Amanuel Ghebreigzabhier (Trek Segafredo), Luis Leon Sanchez (Astana), Felix Großschartner (Bora hansgrohe), Chris Froome (Israel Start-Up Nation), Hermann Pernsteiner (Bahrain Victorious), Nicolas Prodhomme (Ag2r Citroen), Nicolas Roche (Team DSM) e Marton Dina (Eolo Kometa).Battuti il russo Aleksander Vlasov (Astana) e il leader della corsa Simon Yates (Bike Exchange). Bilbao dedica a Michele Scarponi, nel giorno del quarto anniversario della tragedia del marchigiano, il basco e Michele sono stati compagni di squadra all’Astana nel 2017. Nella sua carriera, Bilbao, che ha 31 anni, è arrivato al Giro quinto nel 2020 e sesto nel 2018, vincendo due tappe nel 2019: sarà con Landa e Caruso una delle tre punte della squadra del Bahrain nella corsa rosa.
